101 things to do in 1001 days.

A couple of years ago, I saw on a blog- where they did this list-- 101 things to do in 1001 days.
thought it was a neat idea...
and really is, nice to see some of the things that you have accomplished.
So I decided to go ahead and start one... so...
November 17th 2009 I sat down and wrote out 101 things that I would like to do within the next 1001 days (almost 3 years)-- amazing how much can change ... I have had to make a couple of revisions to the list, (because I knew that I would NOT be able to accomplish some of the things... like i said, 'life changes...-you can see that link here, of that first post.

Time for School! TIME FOR SCHOOL!!!

have to do a little *happy dance* today---
Today is a new beginning for me.
Today is the first day of school for me - at the Kings University. I have never been happier-- I just KNOW that this is what God has planned for my life. Its been incredible. just KNOWING that this is all in HIS Plan. and all in HIS timing.
(of course it would have been nice to have been able to realize that this was the path I was to go down... oh 7 years ago... but I know I had to do alot of growing up, and needed to experience things that way I can help others.)
As you may know, I have had a calling for young adults for the past year.
We have a problem with young adults... they are leaving the church. many of them go to church until they graduate high school- then they leave.
anyways- just over a year ago, it was placed on my heart that I was to go into ministry- young adult ministry. I dont know what I''ll do - I just know that is the age of people I want to work with - I want to get them to go back to church. So that whene they have kids (if they don't already) they can get their kids to go to church... if children don't see their parents praying, going to church...etc... they will have that same mindset... (as a general rule.)we are to set the example.
Anyways- I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me during this time, I know that this is the beginning to something really great :)
I have NEVER been this excited about school before.
I remind myself of Nemo excited about his first day of school:

So I will be beginning school today, and will go for 5 weeks. very short- but love it- I'll have that done in no time, and then will have about a month break, before I start the next quarter.
So this Quarter I am only taking one class: Student Learning Development... basically  just an orientation class to get me ready for online classes. this is one class I am not too worried about :)
Looking over the syllabus, and items that will be due over the next 5 weeks, reflection papers, quizes, final exam... lots to cover the next 5 weeks. I will be logging in 5 times a week, with 3 days a week something to turn in. :) It will be a lot to keep up with.
-work
-school
-wedding
-family/friends...

but I know I can do it. :) I am so incredibly excited I can't hardly stand it. In a matter of just a few years I will have a bachelor degree :) WAHOO!!!
anyways that is my good news for the day. I am very excited and cannot wait to share things that I will learn during this time.

What are you wearing?

short skirt is shortWelcome to Summertime-- the temp is high, the shorts are shorter, the necklines are lower, more skin, less fabric. every summer we see this... but is it just me? -- Just seems like the shorts keep getting shorter each summer- for at least the past summers...
I saw a picture where the girl's shorts were shorter than her undies.... just not right...
The way we dress describes us before we even speak. We set our own image the second someone lays eyes on us.
We forget we impact those around us with the way we dress, what we say, the way we act, what we do and say on Facebook, twitter etc.....

Shorts shorts shorts!!More girls are being pulled in the the secular scene, as images are all around us telling us to show off more leg, more cleavage, and what to wear to show off certain parts of your body. I know that this has been going on for YEARS... but I would love to see a change.
I know I see people whether in real life or on facebook, showing off certain aspects of their body- and honestly, gives me the image of 'they are putting themselves out there'
They are sending a message.
Girls are dressing these days, not even thinking about what they are wearing, they are wearing things that make them look 'sexy'--- not thinking that they are tempting others
.

You are tempting guys. You are being the temptor. You are putting yourself out there....
we have a responsibility towards our brothers: not to stumble them in their faith by the way we act, speak or dress.
I read something somewhere- if I  could remember where I read/heard it- I'd give that person credit- but it basically said that when  girls dress in that manner - you are leading them to temptation - you are putting their faith in jeopardy. All in turn you are also putting your faith and tempting yourself.  wanting that attention. - Wanting people to notice you, and your skin- wanting boys to flock to you, by the way of how much skin you are showing...
As I've been writing this I have begun to think... the way we dress, and the way we act, what we say- that is what begins an attraction.
When you dress to flaunt your body, and to show off skin and to look sexy- then thats the kind of guy you will attract, you will attract someone who wants that skin, wants sex....
Stunning!when we dress and reflect the image of Christ, then we will attract someone who is along the same lines. (Does that make sense?)
It is up to you of who you want to attract... whether you are looking for someone just for sexual attention or  if you are looking for someone who is a good guy, and that looks to Christ.

As Christians we have to be mindful when we do anything, to make sure that it is not tempting anyone in a negative way.--- Whether thats the way we dress, or the way we talk, how we act, or anything.

As far as our dress and fashion, I am not saying we have to start dressing like nuns, we dont have to throw all fashion out the window, just be cautious in what you wear, and how you wear it.
You may have to make some changes to your wardrobe. you may have to find some shirts that cover  certain areas- You may have to wear some shorts that are a little longer, you may have to wear shirts that arent so tight, you may need to wear longer skirts/dresses....

Green knee-length dress"I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him..." (Romans 12:1 NLT)
We are to give our bodies to God. and to be a living and holy sacrifice... the kind that He will find acceptable.
What will God find acceptable?
If you dress in a manner is tempting others, and increasing their chances of stumbling in their faith,  I doubt that God finds that acceptable.

Think about if you are tempting your brothers in Christ..... think about the way you dress... think about the way you act around them, think about the way you talk to them...
Please be mindful when you get dressed, if it is pleasing to God, if you are tempting others, and if you are dressing in a manner that is pleasing to God.
Do you talk in a flirtatious manner, trying to get their attention?
Are you leading guys on by the way you talk/flirt with them?

.Are you tempting them to persue you in any other manner that is not pleasing to God?
The choice is YOURS, and YOURS alone... of how you dress, and whether or not you are going to dress to offer yourself as a living sacrifice to our Heavenly Father.

50 Shades... and Magic Mike--- what is this world coming to?

I've had something on my mind for awhile now... and I read a blog this morning, one that I completely agree with - so it sparked me to really write about this. I really would like to see a change.

This year a book trilogy was released, women flocked to the book stores to buy it- then just a few weeks ago a movie was released, again women flocked to it.

I am not advertising for either of these at all. I am actually telling you to keep away from it. I want that to be loud and clear.

I have not read or seen either of these, I have heard about them, and I have read the descriptions(unfortunately) which has caused this post, because it has really struck something with me.

I am talking about the book series "50 Shades..." and then the move "Magic Mike" The book trilogy is basically porn for women to read, and the movie is about a male stripper. [ yes, I am saying these things on a Christian blog.]

Both descriptions have disgusted me--- and makes me really wonder what is happening to our society- to make it "OK" for women to begin reading, ranting and raving about a porn trilogy series... publicly on twitter, facebook, and getting their friends to begin reading it...

Christian women are also amongst the flocks running to get the next book of the trilogy, and that were/are lining up to go see the movie... this really bothered me.

I know I have seen numerous status updates from girls on facebook about them seeing it, everyone should should see it and everything....

[*SERIOUSLY?!?!?!*]

I have Christian friends that have been reading/watching this smut. I've seen too many people suggesting it as a good read or a movie to watch... they love this stuff, they cant wait to buy the next book. they literally are obsessed with this. I question these women now. these are young women that I thought truly had a heart for God. and truly had 'their head on straight'... then they post that they saw that movie, read the books, I now am questioning them... I question where exactly they stand in their faith. I question if they know God. I question why they got sucked into that..... Just makes me wonder about them.

Seriously... I mean we are Christian women. yes we live in todays world. that does not mean that we have to read every single book out there, especially ones that are trying to break our faith!....We are to deny those things that are trying to separate us FROM God....

We need to reject these things.. we need to reject things that are not pleasing to our Heavenly Father.

We need to use our voices, instead of telling others about this temptation, use it to support what is True.

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father. we are to remain Set apart from the wicked . And dont tempt others with your temptation that you have fallen into....

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20

This is sexual immorality. -- When you are sinning in this way - watching/ reading this smut, then not only are you tempting/hurting others, you are also hurting yourself. maybe not physically, but, spiritually.

Spiritually the devil is distancing you from God.

FLEE from it... he didnt say - eh, you can read it, watch it... you'll be alright... no, He said to FLEE from it...RUN... Toss it, whatever, get away from it. Get away from sexual immorality.... Yes, pornography is sexual immorality.

The enemy is out there lurking-- he wants to use things that will get you to break down your faith. he doesnt want you to have a good relationship with the Heavenly Father.

God tells us to be careful out there...

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

If it takes a book, a movie, music... he is out there lurking and looking for someone to devour. and he will use whatever he can.

God says to be on alert..... to watch out... to watch out for everything that you do/say/read/listen to, whatever.

One of my favorite passages is this...

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-9

-- Just because everone else is reading it, does NOT mean that you have to read it too... We are to be holy and pleasing to God- this is how we worship Him. We are not to just 'go along with the flow.' we are different that 'the world' we are christians. We follow Christ's example...

Is reading that smut Christian example?

What about that song that you sing all that time? is that Christ's example?

When you talk in profanity- are you following Christ's example?

What about the TV shows you watch? Is that what Christ has set before us?

Or that movie- do you think God really put that here to show us His example?

We are to follow Christ. and we are to be Set apart from others.

For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.
1 John 2:16

Learn to say "No"-- Learn to tell others "I'd rather read something good for my spirit" Just because someone asks you if you want something, or tells you to read something, or asks you to go watch a movie, doesnt mean you have to say 'yes.'- learn to say no... when they ask you why- that is when you tell them that is not Christ's example...

(these are my thoughts on these things.)

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23

You see that?--- what you put in, is what you put out...

what are you putting in front of your eyes??? think about it. Is it pleasing to God?

Now, I know I am focusing on these two things-- but honestly it's with everything that we do - we have to watch out for what we have turned on the radio... many songs out there these days-- are about sex, drunkenness, cursing,drugs.... just think about what you are putting in.

I can really say--- Awaken your Spirit!!!... don't succomb to the ways of the world. really stand up for what you believe in, THINK about what you are putting in your head!-- and think about what God has instructed us.... we are to avoid those things.

If your faith is all about pleasing other and being accepted by others- then your faith is in trouble. God loves you no matter what, but if you believe that God your Heavenly father loves you and wants the best for you, out of respect and out of love for Him, then do your best to live a life that honors Him.

13 Days

13 Days- until I begin school.

I have been going to college (minus this past year) - at a university the first year after college, then a community college after that.... but this is different.
I was never just completely exhillerated. I am now.
a year and some-odd- months ago - I felt what God had called me to do--- He wanted/wants me to go into ministry--- Young adult ministry in specific... to focus on the young adults around, that have fallen from the church, or never knew the church/ God... and just help them get back into it. I have no idea what EXACTLY He has in store... but I can just feel that great things will come...
Not too long (just a couple of days later) after I felt that calling- it was announced that Gateway Church would be a Satellite campus for a university in California, The Kings University... after some time, thinking, praying, and everything, I applied, and was accepted about a month ago. (the most amazing feeling... being reassured that this is something that God has His hand over.)
I still feel that excitment that I felt over a year a go.
Im a little nervous, but SUPER excited.
I was accepted for the Summer 2 session beginning July 23 2012... 13 Days from today it all begins. Its only one class for this session - Will be basically an orientation. :) I dont even care- I am so excited because this is  THE beginning. I cannot wait at all.
I have never been so excited about school in my whole entire life. ... it is so different-- just knowing that this truly is something that God has planned for me.... :)
just so different.but soooo awesome!! :)
I can't believe how quickly it is approaching. :) I feel like a kid-- getting all ready for everything....
New backpack, lunch box, pens, pencils, binder, spirals... Well I dont need alot of that, and thank goodness dont need any textbooks-- but will just need my computer. I really am so excited.

Thats all I wanted to share. Im on 'official countdown for school'
13 Days. :)

Being grateful....

The other night we were watching fireworks for Independence Day. - As most Americans do.

We hopped in the car, and were in search for a good location for fireworks... we knew about where they would be launching the fireworks, but we didnt want to get so wrapped up in the crowd, so we went a little further out to find a good spot... anyways- well we ended up along the sidewalk along the road, we had a good view...
Well we set up our chairs, like many of the people around us.
There was a family- near us- I assume it was a mom, dad, and a 10 year old son (or he looked about 10... 11, maybe 12.???)
I knew immediatly that this kid was going to be loud and would be bothersome duuring the firework show, he climbed up in the tree, and his parents didnt stop him, they said 'son get down' in the most calm and gentle voice, they said it a couple of times... he did not obey. (didnt surprise me... since it was obvious that they were not in control.) he was quiet for the majority of the show... but it was towards the end of the show--- it was a 20 min show, and about 5 mins before it ended the boy yelled out "THIS IS SOOOO BORING!!!" the parents asked "well what did you think it would be?" ... "Some kind of laser show...."
"No, this is fireworks....but the finale will be coming up soon."
"what's a finale?"
"when it is almost over"
"oh ok... and is that when the fire works will look like cartoon characters or something?"
"No, just when they will start to shoot off really fast"
"oh. well let me know when that is, because I want to go."-- he proceeded to run around and climb the tree again.
about 1 minute later, the finale began.
the dad hollered out "OK, this is the finale!"
he came back to watch... about 5 seconds into it.. "HOW BORING!"

I couldnt believe what I was hearing.and just how ungrateful this kid sounded. and how just the parents basically just stood there...

Maybe it is because fireworks are one of my favorite things to watch... always has been. I've LOVED the Fourth of July- I love the sight of the American Flag waving, I love waiting for it to get dark enough for the fireworks to begin.love watching them shoot in the air and explode into many colors, and different shapes. I love hearing the big "BOOM" .....
maybe just me.

when I heard this boy - being "bored" by it all... really made me realize the future generations, having to be constantly entertained... and everything has to be bigger and better..

a memory raced to my head -- when I was in Mexico on mission trip... I went on a few mission trips to Mexico... my church would have a team go down there and build little houses and would also have different medical teams. I was always on the construction team. Every year the kids would FLOCK to us, they'd want us to kick around the soccer ball, or do hula hoops, or give them a hug and they were facinated with BUBBLES! (this has always surprised me....do you think kids in america would be so fascinated with the simplist things.... bubbles..????[not many.])

As American's we have so much. Even if you have the littlist. I can almost guarantee you have more that the poverty that there is in other countries.
I have seen homes without running water, using outhouses. homes that are Made out of scrap wood, cardboard, even a roof out of car hoods... and what does your house look like?Bricks? plywood? Windows? doors? oh, a concrete foundation? wow. Carpet? tile? Oh, you have running water? actual bathrooms???
Every single time I went to mexico to build little homes--- "Casitas"- the family that we built them for, were so incredibly grateful for what we had done-- and guess what-- it really wasnt that much...  it was a cinderblock home, on a concrete foundation, with a tin roof. 2 doors- 2 windows. I cannot remember the exact dimensions- I want to say it was maybe 10 ft x 8 ft, then 8ft tall??? I cant remember... but thats approximately of how much they were...
the families LOVED IT!- it was so simple... you would think that you would have given them a mansion. It was incredible to watch the homeowners - they would watch us build their new home, many tears were shed because they were so happy for their new home.
You have to really take a step back, realize that these conditions are what they live in every day.. this is the normal... they have very little.
makes me realize of how much we do have in America. how much freedoms we have, and how well we do have it.
We forget that our everyday lives - our normal- is so much better than many others.

With technology now... I feel that kids - in particular--- want to be entertained "right now"... immedietly. they arent growing  up with having to wait, on anything, everything is handed to them that instant. (this doesnt apply to ALL kids... but just seems like alot of them... you know?)
They have to be entertained in the car, they cant entertain themselves.- Portable DVD players, Gameboys, PSP whatevers... ipods, Ipads... to keep them entertained... in the car, even if you are just driving down the road, out comes the dvds and gameboys.
constantly needing to be entertained.
I'm not perfect- but I know growing up my parents didnt shove a dvd in our face, or a gameboy or whatever. -- If we were out and about running around- I was looking out the window.
If we were on a car ride- I was reading a book. or we were playing various car games- which kept us all entertained, and really had us bonding. and yes, mom would even sing car songs... songs that no one else knows besides our family... I think.  haha.. anyways...
I feel like so many parents shove something in their kids face as if it was a "pacifier.." to pacify them, to keep them quiet.and not bother them.
The kids want things in an instant. right then right there. - like that kid that wanted to be entertained with lasers and cartoon character shaped fireworks... always want to be entertained. constantly bored, nothing to do...

What happend to bonding together, talking? and teaching your children valuable lessons... like being thankful for what you have.
I know when I complained about 'being bored' -- guess what I got to do-- chores around the house-- chores that were of course appropriate to my age- but still was able to learn a lesson - when I was bored... don't tell mom, or she'll tell me to dust. haha. nah- but I think it helped me in the long run - I was able to 'help' mom out and do things kept me occupied, and was learning general household duties, and what was to be done.

Guarantee you those kids I saw in mexico--- remember- they didnt  need a gameboy or iPod... or iPad... they loved bubbles. and time hugging on us, and spending time playing games together.

I think we all could learn a lesson from this...
being thankful for what we have.
We need to Thank God for providing what he has provided for us, and what He will provide in the future.
(and we need to pass that along to others, and the children)
We are to Thank God in ALL circumstances.

Sorry for kind of jumping around today - I really feel like we should be thankful for what we have, and really should take time to realize what we do have, and how we can change that, and change that for future generations.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Welcome to the fishbowl

I was listening to the radio yesterday, when the dj said the title of the new Kenny Chesney album... entitled "Welcome to the Fishbowl".... the dj explained that the reason why he titled that was because these days, with technology we are all visible- everyone can watch what we're doing--- (basically)
this sparked an idea/thought... its so true.

Growing up we always had some kind of animal around--- Dogs, cats, bird, rats (yes... trust me they were my brother's.) Hampster, turtle, ducks, hermit crabs, fish....
focusing on the caged animals, bird, rats, hampster, turtle. hermit crabs, fish... they all were exposed... that was their home. the cage /tank... we could peek in at any moment and see what they were up to. they  were exposed... we can look in - see them.
very much like people today... "oh whats up with so-and-so?"--- well let me check her facebook, and see what she's been up to... not enough info on her facebook page?- I'll message her to see what shes been up to, and how she's doing....

With technology the way it is today - everyone knows our business... that is-- depending on what we CHOOSE to put out there...
Facebook, twitter, google +, Pinterest, myspace (is that still around?), Blogging, LinkedIn, flickr, photobucket,shutterfly... dont forget about the dating websites... eHarmony,ChristianSingles,Match.com....

How much do we put out there for people to see.... and why do we do that? and how can we use social media to be more effective-
Instead of using it for us... why not use it for God????

I'd be the first to admit that I spend alot of time online---

Pinterest. Facebook.Google+... (and currently Theknot.com, weddingwire.... )

People keep up with others--
there are people that I know as aquatinces.. went to school with or something- and I know more about them... I know where they work, where they have worked, I know their relationship status, I know their favorite tv shows, movies, I see pictures of them of what they do on the weekends, I see the videos that they post, I see the language that they use, I know their political stance, I know their beliefs. I know what they ate for breakfast this morning. I know where they will be this weekend. I know where they are now. I know who they went to dinner with last night and where.... and that place seems to be a favorite of theirs. I know where the pictures were taken, I know their work schedule.I know where they like to shop, I know when they come home... \ thats just from Facebook... what about Twitter... can see their thoughts, complaints, and everything that they say... then google + i can see what they say, pictures, who they "hangout" with on video chat, can see everything. - what about Pintrest? I can see foods tthey like, quotes they like, houses they like, what they want their house to look like, fashion that they like, how they want to raise their kids, their dream wedding...... then of course for the dating sites-- their personal information...  Scary, Huh?

Am I able to see them talk about God? - some people, yes... others-- I see them more complaining, updating their status about watching "true blood" or "the amazing race" or the ballgame...

Some people it is hard to tell what exactly they believe in-- are they really followers of Christ???

Anyways-- what are you portraying on your facebook?

can people see that you are truly a follower of Christ?

its not about putting that mask on either-  of how we are viewed by others--- but its a matter of actually living it out... living out what God is doing inside us.

I dont know if that makes sense... but I just feel like so often, we want others to see how well we are doing-- the things we are purchasing, the shows we are watching, and just that worldly things, instead of what God is truly doing in our lives-- and living it for God, instead of living for our 'friends' to see....
- and while we are at it, Giving all the Glory to Him, and sharing His love with others...

anyways- something to think about. :) not only about God - but also our safety. Sometimes people know just too much about us. (especially if you dont "private" your profile... there are creeps out there... sometimes it is best not to let your 'friends' know everything you are doing, you never know who is out there watching...)
